The Beason 31 is a sailboat designed by the Swedish maritime architect Bernt Andersson in the mid seventies. Several hundred boats have been produced. The Beason 31 is built by the Danish yard Sydkystens Bådebyggeri.

Hull
The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. And outside the sailing season, just bottom cleaning and perhaps anti-fouling painting once a year - a few hours of work, that's all.
Unfortunately, the hull is not a double hull which affects the indoor climate. Especially if the water is considerable colder than the cabin, then one might expect condense water in the cabin.

Interior
The interior is like most other boats made of teak.
The boat is equipped with 5 berths and toilet facility.
Note: the boat has also been sold to be self-made/-interiored, which means that the quality of each boat may vary.

Rig
The boat has a masthead rig. The advantage of a masthead rig is its simplicity and the fact that a given sail area - compared with a fractional rig - can be carried lower and thus with less heeling moment.

Keel
Beason 31 has a fin keel which means that it is more manoeuvrable but has less directional stability than a similar boat with a long keel. The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allow a minor keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed. The boat can enter most marinas as the draft is just about 1.65 - 1.75 meter (5.41 - 5.71 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

Engine
The boat is typical equipped with an inboard Volvo Penta MD7A diesel engine at 13.0 hp (9 kW), which gives a max speed about 4.5 knots.
The transmission is a saildrive.
