Hull

The hull is made of fibreglass. A hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season.


Interior

The boat is equipped with 3 cabins, 6 berths, a galley, 1000 liters (264 US gallons, 219 imperial gallons) fresh water capacity and toilet facility.


Rig

The boat has more than one rig.

One option is a masthead rig. The advantage of a masthead rig is its simplicity and the fact that a given sail area - compared with a fractional rig - can be carried lower and thus with less heeling moment.

Another option is a cutter rig. A cutter rig breaks the yacht’s sail area down into smaller, easier to manage sails. Cutter rigs are often used for offshore sailing.


Keel

The Bordeaux 60 has been built with different keel alternatives.

Fin keel with bulb

One option is a fin keel. A boat with a fin keel is more manoeuvrable but has less directional stability than a similar boat with a full keel. The advantage of the bulb is that it lowers the center of gravity which increases the righting moment and reduces the draft.

The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allows a smaller keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed.

Bordeaux 60 can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 2.95 - 3.05 meter (9.68 - 9.98 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

Fin keel with bulb

Another option is a fin keel.

This keel is also made of lead.

The boat can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 2.45 - 2.55 meter (8.04 - 8.34 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

Drop keel

Yet another option is a drop keel. A drop keel is a lifting keel that can be lowered and raised vertically, allowing the boat to enter shallow waters.

This keel is also made of lead.

The boat can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 2.10 - 2.20 meter (6.89 - 7.19 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

Fin keel with bulb

Yet another option is a fin keel.

The keel is made of iron. Many people prefer lead keel in favour of iron. The main argument is that lead is much heavier than iron and a lead keel can therefore be made smaller which again result in less wet surface, i.e. less drag. In fact iron is quite heavy, just 30% less heavy than lead, so the advantage of a lead keel is often overstated.

The fuel tank has a capacity of 1000 liters (264 US gallons, 219 imperial gallons).
